The VDS factory is located directly on the Westhof harbour’s self-loading and unloading dock with direct access to open water. VDS also operates its own road transportation throughout the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. We have a large site, which allows for easy trailer accessibility, loading and unloading.

Site area: 67.000 m²
Buildings: 28.000 m² of which 7.000 m² is workshop area and
21.000 m² Sealake warehouses.

VDS has its own 250-metre quay and a guaranteed low low-water draught of –12 metres NAP.

Our warehouse measures 120 metres by 57.5 metres (L x B).

Current projects and news

VDS takes care of the environment. Since March 8, 2011 we collect energy from the sun by our solar panels. This way we produce over 100.000 kWh each year.
VDS Staal- en Machinebouw BV has build a large monopile for a jetty in England.
The tube is 60 meters long and has a weight of 240,000 kg.
Because of it’s length, diameter and weight it had to be build at a quay with a substantial depth.
Our client was impressed by the work we have done.
The Scandi Acergy lays at the quay of VDS Staal- en Machinbouw BV. On this ship, VDS has to fix a FLS tower. This tower is build to place flexible tubes at the bottom of the ocean.
The ship will be here for one week.
VDS Staal- en Machinebouw B.V. has received the order for the manufacturing of the steel "Bosrandbrug", including detailengineering, conservation and assembly.
The whole bridge exists out of two movable drawbridges of steel

VDS has built in one engine on MV Eglantine. The engine was damaged so it had be replaced. VDS has carried out the activities within the time limit so the Eglantine could continue its trip with only a short delay.
VDS decided to extend its quay. This was so that larger vessels can dock, with a deeper draught if necessary. The advantages of a longer quay are:

  • Larger vessels are able to dock
  • More vessels can make use of our services simultaneously
  • increased vessel repair opportunities
VDS has brought in a partner in the form of Draaipunt, a company which can carry out turning, boring, milling and drilling work on location at the VDS site. Draaipunt is skilled in working with very large diameters, but also welcomes small piece-work. The expansion of the machine park is already a fact!
VDS also uses Polyurea coating now. Polyurea is a special technique which can be used for any applications whatsoever –your own imagination is the limit!
The coating is used in many sectors of industry and is characterised by its unique, strong, damage-resistant layer. The seamless membrane is several mm thick and gives a guaranteed prolonged protection against various weather conditions, chemicals and other environmental factors.
